  • Favorite Authors: Anything by CS Lewis has had a deep and profound impact on my life. (except for The Abolition of Man. I had to do about 5 papers on that one at ORU, and I still haven't forgiven Ruth Givens.) Jane Austen is a staple. Everyone should read at least one Jane Austen novel a year.
  • Favorite Characters: Although I probably will never attempt to read the book again, Jean Val Jean and the Bishop of Digne from Les Miserables are both very inspirational characters.
  • Favorite Quotes: "...But for them it was only the beginning of the real story. All their life in this world and all their adventures in Narnia had only been the cover and title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story which no one on earth has ever read: which goes on forever: in which every chapter is better than the one before." The Last Battle by CS Lewis "I know now, Lord, why you utter no answer. You are yourself the answer. Before your face questions die away." Till We Have Faces by CS Lewis "Shout it to the wind! Diana!" Coming Home by Rosamunde Pilcher "Truth is eternal. Knowledge is changeable." An Acceptable Time by Madeline L'Engle "The moon was tangled in the branches of a large Norway maple." An Acceptable Time by Madeline L'Engle "Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind. 'Pooh!' he whispered. 'Yes, Piglet?' 'Nothing.' said Piglet. 'I just wanted to be sure of you.'" The House at Pooh Corner by AA Milne "I can't stand rudeness in a man. I won't tolerate it." Woodrow Call in Lonesome Dove

Television

  • Favorite Shows: Lost, and pretty much anything on PBS
  • Show I Secretly Watch: My guilty pleasure: SuperNanny. It makes me feel like the best parent in the world.
  • Show I wished wasn't cancelled: Arrested Development. What is wrong with America??? I mean, I can forgive you for electing and then re-electing W, but cancelling Arrested Development??? Is there no hope left for this country?

Travel

  • Places I love: Off the coast of a large island called Sulaweisi in the Indonesian archipelago is a tiny island called Bunaken. There is no electricity on the island, and at night the dark palm trees are outlined by a lush background of stars.
  • Places I've been: The Netherlands, Venezuela, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, England, Mexico...
  • Places to see before I die: Ireland, Scotland, Israel, the Mediteranean, Saturn...
  • Dream Vacation: weeks and weeks to explore Cornwall, England

Movies

  • Favorite Movies: The Sound of Music Braveheart Lord of the Rings (all 3) Star Wars (Trilogy!) Snatch The Shawshank Redemption Schindler's List Life is Beautiful Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon The Lion in Winter Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Crash Lost in Translation Out of Aftrica
  • Movie Quotes I say all the time: "Thank the Maker!" I've been saying it since 1977, and I keep waiting for someone to recognize it as what C3PO says when he gets out of his oil bath after being bought by Luke Skywalker's Uncle Owen from the Jawas on Tatooine. ...so far, no one...

Music

  • Favorite Artists: U2. Seriously. Not just jumping on the bandwagon. Been a fan since 'War' came out in, what, 1981? I've seen them in concert twice and cried both times. Sting, Rich Mullins, Coldplay, Ben Folds, blah blah blah

I'm never going to correct him!
  • Favorite Lyrics: "Wide awake...I'm wide awake... I'm not sleeping..." Bad from The Unforgetable Fire by U2 "And the moon is a sliver of silver, like a shaving that fell on the floor of a carpenter's shop..." The Color Green from A Legacy, A Liturgy, and a Ragamuffin Band by Rich Mullins "She can taste every sensation. She's got a smile like salvation. She's got a baby, a baby at her breast, She walk like she talk, Big girls are best." U2
